Hi, I’m Jack.
I’m a photographer based in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. I’ve been making photographs for publications, brands and couples for about 15 years.
Weddings bring together what I’m drawn to most: people, place, and the feeling of a moment. I work intuitively, offer thoughtful guidance, and pay attention to what’s happening around me.
My mom, Lauren Rutten, photographed weddings for 30 years. That’s where my relationship to this work started, as a toddler holding her light meter. I got to absorb a lifetime of her experience, and I still learn from her.
I’m married. My own wedding, and the weddings of my friends and family, have been some of the most important days of my life. Being the person with the camera at someone else’s is an honor. I take it seriously, and with a big heart.
If you’re curious what I do when I’m not photographing weddings: I shoot for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times and TIME, work with commercial brands, make short films about contemporary dance, and keep up a few personal projects. All of that lives at jacksorokin.com.

Will you help us with portraits?
Yes. I’ll offer gentle, thoughtful direction so you feel comfortable. Much of the rest of the day is photographed as it unfolds.
Can we include film?
Yes. I work with digital, 35mm and medium format film. We’ll discuss the options and what fits your celebration.
Do you travel?
I’m based in Brooklyn and regularly photograph weddings throughout NYC and beyond. Travel details are discussed transparently in your proposal.
How do we secure our date?
After a conversation to make sure we’re a good fit, a signed contract and retainer secure your date.
